Yoper Linux
Yoper Linux is a distro developed from scratch with the i386 architecture in mind. Specifically, it’s optimized for high performance in 686 systems (Pentium Pro or higher). The name means YourOPERating System.
Yoper’s original founder was Andreas Girardet. He doesn’t maintain the distribution anymore, that job is now in the hands of Tobias Gerschner. The whole thing is done from New Zealand by a company which does Yoper for free while also offering general Unix, ISP and security consulting.
This distro aims to fully take advantage of the best features in the 686+ processor family by offering a set of software packages thoroughly optimized for such hardware in a single free CD with a full featured desktop applications set. The idea here is that freedom in software must also afford high performance .
